Students found the there are two different shades of paint.

  • The 1 part yellow and 2 parts blue is equivalent to 3 parts yellow and 6 parts blue
  • The remaining ratios are equal to each other.

Students were then asked to look at the following lemonade mixtures and write down 1 thing that they notice.

After reviewing what they noticed about the problem, students were put in groups to work at white boards solving the following problems:

1. You want to sell the lemonade that tastes the most “lemony.” Which recipe will be the most “lemony”? Order the recipes from least lemony to most lemony. Use multiple strategies to solve this problem and explain the strategies you used.

2. If you are planning to use 10 cups of water, how many cups of concentrate would you need for each recipe? Use multiple strategies to solve this problem and explain the strategies you used.
